They are everywhere in Cuyahoga Valley National Park – and that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
Herons are captivating creatures that have been around a long time. These birds, which belong to the Ardeidae family, have long legs and necks and can be found near watery habitats across the globe. From their unique coloring to their powerful hunting abilities, herons make for interesting study subjects.
Herons are powerful hunters who use their long legs and necks as well as sharp beaks to capture prey such as fish, frogs, and insects.
They also possess excellent eyesight; when searching for food, herons will stand still for long periods of time before quickly striking out with their beak when they see something edible. This combination of traits makes them successful predators who can provide sustenance for themselves and their young.
